Anthony Tyrone Thompson, born on August 17, 1981, is a talented American boxer. He competes in the Junior middleweight division. He is also known by his nickname, "The Messenger."

Amazing Amateur Career

Anthony Thompson had a fantastic start in boxing as an amateur. He won the National Golden Gloves Welterweight Championship in 2000. That same year, he also became the USA National Champion. He also won the National Police Athletic League (PAL) Championship. Winning all three in one year is a rare achievement for a boxer!

In 2001, Anthony repeated as USA National Champion. He was also the runner-up at the 2001 World Championship. This event took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He lost to Lorenzo Aragon from Cuba in the final match.

Professional Boxing

Thompson became a professional boxer in 2002. Many people thought he would quickly become a champion. However, his career faced a challenge in 2004. He lost a fight by technical knockout (TKO) to Grady Brewer.

After this loss, Thompson won several fights against different opponents. He even defeated an experienced boxer named Robert Frazier. These wins helped him get ready for bigger challenges in the boxing world.

On June 9, 2007, Anthony Thompson fought Yuri Foreman. This was a 10-round junior middleweight fight. It took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Foreman won the fight by a split decision. This means that some judges thought Foreman won, and others thought Thompson won. In the end, two judges scored the fight for Foreman, and one judge scored it for Thompson.

Another important fight for Thompson happened on August 15, 2008. He fought Ishmail Arvin in Washington D.C. Thompson suffered a deep cut above his left eye in the third round. This was due to an accidental headbutt. Even with the cut, Thompson knocked Arvin down twice in that same round. Thompson continued to do well in the fight. However, the referee stopped the match after the sixth round because of Thompson's cut.
