Antonelli Bros Ltd facts for kids
Antonelli Bros Ltd is a company that makes ice cream cones and wafers. They are based in Eccles, Greater Manchester, in the United Kingdom.
A Sweet Beginning
The company's founder, Domenico Antonelli, was born in a place called Picinisco in Lazio, Italy. After he moved to the UK, he started his own business in 1912. He began making ice cream cones and wafers. Domenico worked with his sons, Ernest, Luigi, and Romolo. Their company was first known as The International Wafer Company. They had locations in Salford and Ayres Road Old Trafford.
Growing the Business
In 1924, the company decided to focus more on making biscuits. Because of this, they changed their name to "International Biscuit Co. Ltd". During World War II, the company helped out by making special 'Iron rations' for the military. At that time, making wafers was not allowed. After the war ended, the business grew very quickly.
Family Leadership Today
In 1961, Romolo's sons, Ernest, Roland, and Victor, opened a new bakery in Eccles. This bakery specialized in making biscuits especially for the ice cream industry. When Ernest and Victor retired, Roland took over the company. In the early 1990s, Roland's sons, Mark and David, joined the family business. They are still in charge of the company today, though Roland remains the chairman. Antonelli Bros Ltd continues to be a leading maker of ice cream cones and wafers.
