Life of Antonio Castrejon
Antonio Castrejon was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1625. He learned to paint from another artist named Francisco Fernandez. Antonio was very good at using colors in his paintings, even more so than he was at drawing perfect shapes.
He often painted smaller pictures, which were some of his best works. However, he also created large paintings for churches. One famous large painting was called Martyrdom of Santa Lucia. It was an altar-piece, which is a work of art placed behind the altar in a church. This particular painting was in the church of San Felipe el Real in Madrid, but sadly, it was destroyed in a fire in 1718.
Antonio Castrejon also worked with other artists. He would paint people and figures into the architectural scenes created by Roque Ponce and Josef Garcia. He also added groups of figures inside the beautiful flower paintings made by Gabriel de la Corte. Antonio Castrejon passed away in Madrid in 1690.
