Antonio de Benavides y Fernández de Navarrete (born June 20, 1807, in Baeza, Spain – died January 23, 1884, in Madrid, Spain) was an important Spanish noble, historian, and politician. He served as a top government official, known as the Minister of State, during the time of Queen Isabella II of Spain. He was a very respected person who helped shape Spain's history in the 1800s.

Antonio de Benavides was born into an important family. His father, Manuel de Benavides y Rodríguez-Zambrano, held a significant position in their local community. His mother was Francisca de Paula Fernández de Navarrete y Motilla.

Important Roles and Honors

Antonio de Benavides was known for his work in government. He served as the Minister of State for a short period in 1865. This role meant he was in charge of Spain's foreign affairs, dealing with other countries. He worked under Queen Isabella II.

He also received several high honors during his life. He was made a Knight of the Order of Santiago. This was a very old and respected Spanish order of chivalry. He was also a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. This honor is given to people who have done great things for Spain.

A Member of the Royal Spanish Academy

Beyond his political career, Antonio de Benavides was also a historian. His knowledge and contributions led him to become a member of the Real Academia Española (Royal Spanish Academy).
