Anwar Hared (born November 17, 1996) is a talented Somali-Canadian athlete. He plays both ice hockey and bandy. Bandy is a winter sport similar to ice hockey, but played on a larger ice rink with a ball instead of a puck. Anwar made history by scoring the first-ever goal for the Somalia national bandy team at the 2014 Bandy World Championship. He scored two goals in total during that tournament.

Playing for Somalia

Anwar Hared also joined the Somalia team for the 2015 Bandy World Championship in Khabarovsk, Russia. In their first game, Somalia played against the Netherlands and lost 0–18. Even though the score was tough, Anwar said he enjoyed the game itself. He was happy to be playing.

Making History Again

Anwar continued to make his mark in bandy. He scored another goal in a game against the team from China. This made him the only Somali player to score goals in two different World Championships. It was a special achievement for him and his team.

How Anwar Joined the Team

Anwar moved to Canada with his family when he was young. He lived there for more than 15 years. One day, while looking online, he discovered the Somalia national bandy team. He was excited about the chance to play for his home country.

Training for Bandy

To prepare for bandy, Anwar trained hard. He practiced on roller skates for three months to get used to the movement. Then, he trained on ice skates for another two months. After all this training, he was ready to join the team. Anwar lives in Newmarket, Canada, where he also plays ice hockey.
