Anwar Hared: A Bandy Star
Anwar Hared is famous for his skills in bandy. Bandy is a winter sport played on ice, a bit like ice hockey but with a ball and different rules. Anwar played for the Somalia national team in big competitions.
Making History in Bandy
Anwar Hared played in the 2014 Bandy World Championship. This was a very exciting time for Somalia. Anwar scored the first goal ever for the Somalia team! He scored two goals in total during that championship. Imagine being the first person to score for your country in a world competition!
Competing Again: 2015 World Championship
Anwar also joined the Somalia team for the 2015 Bandy World Championship. This event took place in Khabarovsk. Somalia played against the Netherlands in their first game. They lost 0–18, but Anwar still felt good about the experience. He said the game was pleasant, even though the result was disappointing.
Anwar showed his amazing talent again in the 2015 championship. He scored a goal in the game against the team from China. This made him the only Somali player to score in two different World Championships! That's a fantastic achievement.
Anwar's Journey to Bandy
Anwar Hared moved to Canada with his family when he was young. He lived there for more than 15 years. He found out about the Somalia national bandy team while looking online. This discovery changed his sports path!
To get ready for bandy, Anwar trained hard. He practiced on roller skates for three months. Then, he trained on ice skates for another two months. After all that hard work, he joined the team. Anwar lives in Newmarket, Canada, and also plays ice hockey there.
