Anésia Pinheiro Machado (born in June 1902 or June 5, 1904, in Itapetininga, Brazil – died May 10, 1999) was a brave and pioneering Brazilian pilot. She was the second woman in Brazil to get a pilot's license. Her first solo flight was on March 17, 1922. In April 1922, she received her official pilot's license, called Brevet No. 77, from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) through the Aeroclube do Brasil.

Amazing Achievements in Aviation
Anésia Machado was a true pioneer in Brazilian aviation. She was the first female pilot in Brazil to achieve many things.
Firsts in Flight
- She was the first woman pilot in Brazil to carry passengers in her plane.
- She became the first journalist to write only about aviation topics.
- She was also the first woman to perform stunt flights, which are exciting and tricky aerial maneuvers.
- Anésia made the first cross-country flight by a woman in Brazil. This means she flew a long distance across the country.
A Special Medal
After her cross-country flight in 1922, a famous aviation pioneer named Alberto Santos-Dumont gave her a special gold medal. This medal was a copy of one he had received from Isabel de Bragança, a Brazilian princess. Anésia kept this medal as a good luck charm throughout her life.
Flying in America
In July 1943, Anésia earned an American commercial pilot’s license. This license allowed her to fly planes for business purposes. She also gained extra ratings, meaning she could be an instructor and fly planes using only instruments, even in bad weather.
Goodwill Tour
In 1951, Anésia went on a special goodwill tour across the Americas. She flew with messages from the Brazilian president to leaders in North, Central, and South America. She later said that delivering these messages was one of the greatest satisfactions of her life.
Honors and Awards
- In 1970, the Governor of Missouri, Warren Hearnes, made her an honorary citizen of Ne Missouri. This is a special title given to people who are respected and admired.
- In 1989, she received the Edward Warner Award. This is a very important international award given for outstanding contributions to aviation.
Due to all her amazing achievements and being one of the first women in aviation, Anésia Pinheiro Machado was often called the "Dean of all Women Pilots." This means she was seen as the most experienced and respected female pilot. She was also a member of the Ninety-Nines, an organization for women pilots.
