This building was constructed around 1889. It's a great example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture. This style was very popular back then. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. This means it's an important historical site.

What Makes This Building Special?
This building is located in Burlington's Old North End neighborhood. This area is full of homes and buildings. The apartment building is made of wood and has 2-1/2 stories. It has a classic rectangular shape. The roof has a pointed, triangular shape called a gable.
Cool Features of the Building
One side of the building faces Johnson Street. It has a section that sticks out with a gabled roof. There's also a two-story porch on this side. This porch wraps around to the corner of the building.

- A third apartment has its own entrance. This entrance is on the northern side. It has a small metal roof over it.
The bottom part of the second-floor porch has cool, rounded shingles. These shingles look like fish scales! Inside, many parts of the building were updated in the 1960s. But some original parts are still there. For example, the old staircase railings are from when the building was first built.
Who Built It and Why?
A man named Eli Johnson built this apartment building. He started building it around 1888. He was developing Johnson Street at that time. Eli Johnson was an important businessman in Burlington. He owned part of a printing company. He also had a pharmacy on College Street.
Why Was It Built?
Burlington was growing very fast in the late 1800s. Many people were moving to the city for jobs. This led to a shortage of homes. There weren't enough places for working-class families to live. Eli Johnson built this apartment building to help with that problem.
When it was first built, the building had two apartments. This is called a duplex. In the early 1960s, it was changed to have three apartments. Many of the first people who lived on Johnson Street came from England or Ireland.
