Apopka Spring facts for kids
Apopka Spring is a large natural spring located in the Gourd Neck bay of Lake Apopka. You can find it east of Clermont in Lake County, Florida.
The area right around the spring is mostly undeveloped swampland. However, Clermont's suburban neighborhoods are nearby. The spring's water flows directly into Lake Apopka. There is also a bottled water company close by that takes water from the underground water system (called an aquifer) that feeds the spring.
Exploring Apopka Spring
Apopka Spring can only be reached by boat, and the land around it is private property. The main opening (called a vent) where the spring water comes out is 90 feet deep. This vent then opens up to a wider area at 45 feet below the water's surface.
The spring's pool on the surface is about 180 feet wide. When a lot of water is flowing, the pool looks very clear. But when there's less water, it can look murky because of the lake water mixing in.
