Apotekarnes Cola was a special cola-flavored soft drink from Sweden. It was made by a company called Pripps, which later became part of Carlsberg Sverige. This drink was created to replace another popular cola when Pripps no longer had the right to sell it.
What Was Apotekarnes Cola?
Apotekarnes Cola was a type of cola drink. It was made in Sweden by a company called Pripps. Later, Pripps joined with Carlsberg Sverige. This cola was part of the well-known "Apotekarnes" brand. The Apotekarnes brand is famous in Sweden for other traditional soft drinks.
Why Was It Created?
For many years, Pripps had the special permission to sell Coca-Cola in Sweden. But in the late 1990s, Pripps lost this important agreement. They could no longer make or sell Coca-Cola. To fill this gap, Pripps decided to create their own cola drink.
They used their existing brand, Apotekarnes, for this new cola. The Apotekarnes brand was already popular for other Swedish drinks. These included julmust, a Christmas drink, sockerdricka, a sweet soda, and hallonmust, a raspberry-flavored drink. So, Apotekarnes Cola joined this family of well-known Swedish sodas.
Why Did It Disappear?
Apotekarnes Cola was sold by Pripps for a few years. However, the company's plans changed again. Pripps (which had merged into Carlsberg Sverige) later got a new agreement. This time, they received the right to produce and sell Pepsi-Cola in Sweden.
Because they could now sell Pepsi-Cola, there was no longer a need for Apotekarnes Cola. So, Apotekarnes Cola was stopped. It was replaced by Pepsi-Cola in the Pripps/Carlsberg Sverige drink lineup.
