Discover the Apple Capital Museum

This museum first opened its doors in 1998. It shares its building with the tourist information center for Berwick. A big part of the museum focuses on the apple industry. This industry was very important to Nova Scotia's history.

The Amazing Railway Model

Inside the museum, you'll find a large, working model railway. This model shows the center of Berwick exactly as it looked in the 1930s. This was when the apple industry was at its busiest. You can see all the many tracks and sidings of the Dominion Atlantic Railway.

The Building's History

The building itself has an interesting past. It was first a harness shop owned by Harry Lyons in the 1800s. A harness shop sold equipment for horses. In the 1940s, Howard Margeson bought the building. He ran a men's clothing store there. He also had a taxi business and a bicycle shop! In 1998, the Margeson family kindly gave the building to the museum.

Fun Events and How It Works

The museum started an annual vintage car rally in July 2012. This event has become very popular. It attracts old cars and drivers from all over Nova Scotia. Many volunteers even dress up in old-fashioned costumes from the past! The Apple Capital Museum Society runs the museum. It is open only during certain seasons of the year.
