Arata Kodama (児玉 新, Kodama Arata, born October 8, 1982) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender. After his playing career, he became a football manager. He is currently an assistant manager for Gamba Osaka.

Arata Kodama's Football Journey

Arata Kodama was born in Takatsuki, Osaka on October 8, 1982. He started his football journey with the youth team of Gamba Osaka. In 2001, he joined the main team, which plays in the J1 League.

Early Career at Gamba Osaka

When he first started playing professionally, Arata Kodama was a left side midfielder. However, he found it hard to get a regular spot on the team. This means he didn't play in many games.

In 2005, while he was with Gamba Osaka, his team won the J1 League title. This was a big achievement for the club. They also came in second place in the J.League Cup that same year.

Moving to Kyoto and Shimizu

In 2006, Arata Kodama moved to another J1 League club, Kyoto Purple Sanga. Here, he became a regular player, often playing as a left side back. Unfortunately, his team finished last in the league that year. This meant they were moved down to the J2 League, which is a lower division.

In 2007, he joined Shimizu S-Pulse, another team in the J1 League. He played many games as a regular left side back for this club. In 2008, his team finished second in the J.League Cup. This was a good result for Shimizu S-Pulse.

Later Career and Retirement

In 2009, Shimizu S-Pulse got a new player named Kosuke Ota. Arata Kodama started playing as a center back sometimes, not just a side back. But from 2010 onwards, he didn't get to play as much.

In 2012, he moved to Cerezo Osaka, another J1 League team. However, he hardly played in any matches there. In 2013, he joined Oita Trinita, also in the J1 League. He played in many games until the middle of 2013. But after that, his chances to play became fewer. Oita Trinita also finished last in the league that year.

Arata Kodama decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2013 season. Throughout his career, he played in 176 league matches and scored 1 goal.
