Kosuke Ota (太田 宏介, born July 23, 1987) is a Japanese football player. He played as a defender, usually on the left side. Kosuke Ota was born in Tokyo, Japan. He played for many different clubs in Japan, the Netherlands, and Australia during his career.

Kosuke Ota's Club Career
Starting Out in Japan
Kosuke Ota started his professional football journey in 2006. His first club was Yokohama FC. He played there for three years. In 2009, he moved to Shimizu S-Pulse, a team in Japan's top league, the J1 League. He played 85 league games for Shimizu S-Pulse and scored two goals.
Moving to FC Tokyo and Europe
In 2012, Ota joined FC Tokyo. He stayed with this club for three years. After that, he decided to try playing football in Europe. He moved to the Netherlands in 2016 to play for Vitesse. This team plays in the Eredivisie, which is the top football league in the Netherlands.
Ota played in 28 matches for Vitesse. However, he found it challenging to live in the Netherlands. So, he returned to Japan in 2017 and rejoined FC Tokyo.
Later Career and Retirement
After his second time at FC Tokyo, Ota moved to Nagoya Grampus in 2019. In 2020, he went to Australia to play for Perth Glory. This team is part of the A-League, Australia's main football league. In his first game for Perth Glory in 2021, he came on as a substitute. He helped his team by setting up two goals against Brisbane Roar.
On July 18, 2022, Ota signed with Machida Zelvia. This team plays in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest football league. He played for Machida Zelvia until the end of the 2023 season. On October 3, 2023, Kosuke Ota officially announced that he was retiring from professional football.
Kosuke Ota's International Career
Playing for Japan's Youth Team
In July 2007, Kosuke Ota was chosen to play for the Japan U-20 national team. He played in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In this big tournament, he played one match as a left-sided defender against Nigeria.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Ota made his first appearance for the main Japan national team on January 6, 2010. This was during a qualifying match for the 2011 Asian Cup against Yemen. He played a total of 7 matches for the senior national team between 2010 and 2015.
