What Was Arboretum Villanova?
An arboretum is like a living museum for trees. It's a place where many different kinds of trees and plants are grown and studied. The Villanova campus was officially named an arboretum in 1993. This meant it had a special collection of trees. However, it no longer has this official title today.
A Home for Many Trees
Even though it's not officially an arboretum anymore, the Villanova campus still has a huge collection of trees. There are about 1,500 trees in total. These trees belong to 254 different types, or species.
You can find many interesting trees there, such as:
- Giant sequoia trees
- Tall sycamore trees
- Different kinds of pine trees
- Beautiful flowering pear trees
- Colorful crabapple trees
- Cherry trees
- Horse chestnut trees
Many of these trees have labels. These labels help visitors learn more about each tree. They often show the tree's name and where it comes from.
Taking Care of the Trees
The trees on the Villanova campus are looked after by a special team. This team is called the Grounds Division. They make sure the trees stay healthy and grow well. They also plan for new trees to be planted in the future. Their work helps keep the campus green and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
