What the Story is About
The story begins when special agents Ziggy and Victor Battiato tell Nate, Summer, Trevor, and Pigeon that two important people, John Dart and Mozag, have disappeared. They ask the friends to investigate an arcade called Arcadeland.
The friends visit the arcade. They decide to earn enough tickets to get special hand stamps. These stamps let them join four secret clubs. Nate gets his stamp from Jonas White, the owner of Arcadeland. Jonas is a magician. He tells Nate that he is using the clubs to find a powerful magical item called Uweya.
Lindy Stott also earns a stamp. She doesn't know that she is actually Jonas's sister, Belinda White. Her guardian, Sebastian Stott, is not happy about this.
Each friend joins a different club with special powers:
- Summer joins the Tanks. This gives her super endurance, meaning she can keep going for a long time.
- Pigeon joins the Subs. He can now breathe underwater.
- Trevor becomes a Racer. He can move at amazing speed.
- Nate and Lindy join the Jets. They gain the power to fly!
To make sure the club members obey him, Jonas creates a special doll for each person. These dolls are like voodoo dolls. Whatever happens to the doll also affects the person.
The First Task
Jonas gives the Jets and Subs their first mission. They must race to find the Gate to Uweya. This gate is hidden by a person called the Hermit. Nate and Lindy manage to get the Gate from the Hermit. They explain they are only helping Jonas to protect their friends.
Pigeon and the other Subs lose the race. Jonas secretly locks them up under Arcadeland. There, he discovers that Dart and Mozag are also prisoners.
The Second Task
Next, Jonas sends the Racers and Tanks to find a guidestone from the Graywater family. The Tanks are stronger and take the guidestone. Trevor, a Racer, does not go back to Arcadeland. He hides in Mr. Stott's apartment, where Jonas's magic cannot reach him.
The Third Task and Escapes
The Jets win against the Tanks in the third task. They use the guidestone to find a small idol called the Protector. Lindy goes back to Arcadeland. Nate goes to Stott's apartment to make a plan. Summer also escapes to Stott's apartment to avoid being captured like the other Tanks.
Meanwhile, Trevor and Victor try to rescue their friends from Arcadeland. They are captured. But Victor manages to send a message to Ziggy. He tells Ziggy where Jonas gets his magic power from. Ziggy then tells Nate.
The Final Confrontation
Nate visits the Hermit again. The Hermit gives him a special charm. This charm will protect Nate from Jonas's magic. When Nate gets home, Lindy is waiting. She tells him that Jonas revealed the truth about her past.
The next morning, Jonas's helpers take the Jets to Mt. Diablo. They go into an underground room. They use the Gate and the Protector to get past the first magical defenses guarding Uweya. Jonas tries to freeze the Jets using his special dolls. But Nate is safe because of the Hermit's charm.
Nate gets past the last defenses. He meets two members of the Graywater family. They tell him that Uweya is a magical globe. It can change real objects on Earth. Nate uses Uweya to destroy Jonas's power source. Then, he destroys Uweya itself. He does this to stop anyone from using its power for bad things.
With Jonas's power gone, all his prisoners are set free. Jonas and his helpers are arrested. Mr. Stott asks Nate to help Lindy. She needs support as she learns about her true identity. Stott also reveals that there is a third White sibling named Camilla. Mozag is watching over her.
