Archibald David Kennedy, 7th Marquess of Ailsa (born 3 December 1925, died 7 April 1994) was an important Scottish nobleman. He was also known as the 7th Marquess of Ailsa. A Marquess is a high rank in the British nobility, often passed down through families. He was the son of Angus Kennedy, 6th Marquess of Ailsa.

Archibald David Kennedy also received special honors. He was an OBE, which stands for Officer of the Order of the British Empire. This is an award given by the King or Queen for great achievements. He was also a DL, which means he was a local representative of the King or Queen in his area.

Early Life and Work

When he was young, Archibald David Kennedy was known as David Kennedy. He had an interesting job working as a fireman on steam trains. This meant he was responsible for shoveling coal to keep the engine running.

Later, when he became the Marquess of Ailsa, he took on a big role. He managed the Isle of Man Railway for several years, from 1967 to 1971. This meant he was in charge of running the trains and the railway system on the Isle of Man.

Family Life

Archibald David Kennedy married Mary Burn on 7 April 1954. Mary was born on 3 May 1916 and passed away on 17 August 2007 in Edinburgh. Her father, John Burn, was a coal miner from Amble, Northumberland.

Archibald and Mary had three children:

  • Lady Elizabeth Helen Kennedy (born 23 February 1955)
  • Archibald Angus Charles Kennedy, 8th Marquess of Ailsa (born 13 September 1956, died 15 January 2015)
  • Lord David Thomas Kennedy, 9th Marquess of Ailsa (born 3 July 1958)
