Archibald Kennedy IV, Earl of Cassilis, KT (born 4 June 1794 – died 12 August 1832) was an important figure in Scottish history. He was the oldest son of Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa. For most of his life, he was known as Lord Kennedy. Later, he became the Earl of Cassilis just before he passed away.

Early Life and Education

Archibald Kennedy was born in 1794. He grew up in a noble family in Scotland. His father was the 1st Marquess of Ailsa, a very high-ranking nobleman.

Archibald went to the University of Saint Andrew. This is a very old and respected university in Scotland. He studied there with a teacher named James Ferrie. Mr. Ferrie was a Professor of Civil History, which means he taught about the history of societies and governments.

Family Life

Archibald Kennedy married Eleanor Allardyce on 1 May 1814. They had a large family together. They had one daughter and nine sons.

Their children were:

  • Hannah Eleanor (born April 1815 – died 8 May 1877)
  • Lord Archibald (born 25 August 1816 – died 20 March 1870). He later became the 2nd Marquess of Ailsa.
  • Alexander (born April 1818 – died October 1832)
  • John (born September 1819 – died 3 September 1846)
  • Lord David (born 17 November 1820 – died 10 April 1905). He married Lady Mary Emily Boyle. They had one daughter named Evelyn Mary.
  • Lord Gilbert (born 14 July 1822 – died 25 November 1901). He married his cousin, Margaret Baird. They had two sons and two daughters.
  • Captain Lord William (born 30 November 1823 – died 5 March 1868). He married Sarah Jane de Blois and they had three children.
  • Lord Nigel (born May 1828 – died 18 March 1878). He married twice and had three children with his second wife.
  • Lord Adolphus Archibald (born 12 July 1832 – died 20 June 1842)

Archibald Kennedy IV passed away on 12 August 1832.
