Archie's TV Funnies was a fun Saturday morning cartoon show. It was made by Filmation and aired on CBS. The show ran from September 11, 1971, to September 1, 1973. It featured the famous characters from Archie Comics. These included Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle, and Jughead Jones.
This cartoon was the fourth show in the popular Archie series. The first one was The Archie Show in 1968. Later, it became The Archie Comedy Hour and Archie's Funhouse.
Archie's TV Funnies was different from the earlier Archie shows. Those shows were known for comedy and musical performances by The Archies. But this new show changed the format. In Archie's TV Funnies, Archie and his friends ran their own local TV station. This station looked a lot like the Filmation animation studios!
Each episode would feature short animated versions of classic newspaper comic strips. A typical episode started with one of the gang reporting a story in Riverdale. Then, they would show several animated comic strips. The reporter would keep telling the story as the strips played. The episode would end with the whole gang finishing the Riverdale story. The show aired for two years. However, in 1973, it was replaced by Everything's Archie. That show brought back the familiar musical format.
