Archie Savage facts for kids
Archie Savage (born April 19, 1914 — died February 14, 2003) was an American dancer, choreographer, and actor in movies and plays. He was a very important person in the early days of modern dance for African-Americans. For many years, he danced with Katherine Dunham's famous dance company. He also helped teach the "Dunham Technique" at her school, which was a special way of dancing.
Archie Savage was one of the first black men to play an astronaut in a movie. Another actor, Julius Ongewe, also played an astronaut in a film called First Spaceship on Venus in the same year, 1960.
Archie Savage also had his own dance group called "The Archie Savage Dancers." They appeared in the movie "The Glenn Miller Story." In one part of the film, you can see them dancing on a screen while a band records the song "Tuxedo Junction."
