Archippus (poet) facts for kids
Archippus (pronounced ar-KIP-us) was an ancient Greek poet from Athens. He lived in the late 400s BC. He was known for writing plays in a style called Old Comedy.
His most famous play was called Fishes. In this play, he made fun of people in Athens who loved to eat fancy fish dishes. Some experts from ancient times also said he wrote four other plays that were sometimes thought to be by another famous writer, Aristophanes. These plays were Dionysus Shipwrecked, Islands, Niobos, and Poetry.
Archippus was also known for his love of wordplay, like making puns or jokes with words. Other writers at the time sometimes teased him for this.
