Architectural, Surveying and Planning (constituency) facts for kids
The Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape is a special voting group in Hong Kong. It helps choose people to be part of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, which is like Hong Kong's parliament or law-making body. This voting group was first created in 1985.
This group is made up of people who work as architects, landscape architects, surveyors, and planners. These are all important jobs that help design and build our cities and spaces.
To be part of this voting group, you need to be a member of one of these professional groups:
- Hong Kong Institute of Architects (for architects)
- Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (for landscape architects)
- Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (for surveyors)
- Hong Kong Institute of Planners (for planners)
If you are a member of one of these groups and can vote at their main meetings, then you can vote in this special election.
What is a Functional Constituency?
A functional constituency is a special way of voting in Hong Kong. Instead of everyone in a certain area voting together, people vote based on their job or profession. It's like saying, "If you're a teacher, you vote in the 'Education' group," or "If you're a doctor, you vote in the 'Medical' group." This helps make sure that different important jobs and industries have a voice in the government.
Why Do These Jobs Have a Special Voting Group?
Architects, surveyors, planners, and landscape architects are all very important for how cities are built and designed.
- Architects design buildings, from houses to skyscrapers.
- Landscape architects design outdoor spaces like parks, gardens, and public squares.
- Surveyors measure land and buildings, helping with construction and property.
- Planners decide how land should be used and how cities should grow.
Because their work is so important for Hong Kong's development, they have their own special group to choose someone who understands their jobs and can speak for them in the Legislative Council.
History of the Voting Group's Name
