The Archives and Records Association, Ireland (ARA, Ireland) is a main group for people who work with old documents and records in Ireland. This includes both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It helps archivists, people who fix old documents (called archive conservators), and records managers.
ARA, Ireland is part of a bigger group called the Archives and Records Association (ARA, UK & Ireland). Both groups were created on June 1, 2010. They formed when three other groups joined together. These groups were the National Council on Archives, the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government, and the Society of Archivists.

How ARA, Ireland is Set Up
ARA, Ireland is one of eleven groups that make up the larger ARA organization across Ireland and the UK. Each of these groups has its own local committee. However, ARA, Ireland has more freedom to make its own decisions than the other ten groups in Britain.
Who Can Join ARA, Ireland?
ARA, Ireland has more than 170 members. Most of these members are professionals. They include archivists, records managers, and archive conservators. These members work in many different types of organizations.
The group also has a special membership for people who work at a lower level in archives. This is also for anyone interested in archives. Students can also join if they are studying to become an archivist or records manager.
News and Learning from ARA, Ireland
ARA, Ireland publishes a newsletter three times a year. This newsletter is now sent out online. They also run a website called Learnaboutarchives. This website gives helpful information to the public. It is especially useful for teachers and students. It helps them learn about old documents and archive services in Ireland.
The main ARA group (ARA, UK & Ireland) also publishes a journal twice a year. This journal is called the Journal of the Society of Archivists. It talks about important topics for its members. They also send out a monthly newsletter called ARC. This newsletter covers archives, records management, and conservation.
Training and Skills Development
ARA, Ireland offers many training events throughout the year. These events help its members learn new skills. Past training topics have included planning for emergencies. They also taught about protecting digital records.
For people who fix old documents, the Association has a special certificate. This Certificate in Archive Conservation is for members only. They also help with a program called Professional Accreditation of Conservator-Restorers (PAC-R). All professional members are encouraged to join the Association's Registration Scheme. This scheme helps members keep learning and improving their skills. Members who finish this scheme can use the letters RMARA after their name. This means Registered Member Archives and Records Association.
