The Arcola Presbyterian Church is a very old and special church located in Arcola, Louisiana, United States. It was built a long time ago, in 1859. The church has a unique style called Greek Revival, which makes it look a bit like ancient Greek temples!
A Look Back in Time
The church building was finished in 1859. The land for the church was set aside by John Corkern and John Leonard. They wanted a place to promote "Christianity, morality and education." At first, it was planned to be under the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
By 1861, the church started practicing as a Presbyterian church. Then, in 1897, it officially became a Presbyterian church. On June 3, 1964, the church property was given directly to the people who attended the church.
A Historic Landmark
The Arcola Presbyterian Church is so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This means it's recognized as a significant historical place in the United States.
