Ares del Maestrat facts for kids
Ares del Maestrat, also known as Ares del Maestre, is a small town in the province of Castelló in the Valencian Country of Spain. It is located high up on the Mola d'Ares mountain, about 1,148 meters (3,766 feet) above sea level. This makes it a very scenic place!
Ares del Maestrat used to have more people, but many moved to bigger cities in the 1960s and 1970s. Because of this, it is not very crowded today. However, it is still a popular spot for tourists to visit. People enjoy seeing the old buildings, like the gothic town hall and the beautiful neoclassical church. You can also explore the remains of the ancient Mola castle.
The Tossal d'Orenga mountain is also part of the Ares del Maestrat area. It is a favorite place for people who enjoy paragliding, which is like flying with a special parachute.
Population Changes
Ares del Maestrat has seen its population change over the years. In 1990, about 370 people lived there. By 2006, the number had become smaller, with around 222 residents. This shows how some smaller towns have fewer people living in them today compared to the past.
