History of Ariany
Ancient Times and Early Records
Archaeological discoveries show that people lived in the villages around Ariany a very long time ago. These findings suggest that communities were here even in prehistoric times. The name "Ariany" was first written down by James I of Aragon. He was a king who ruled in the 13th century.
From Family Lands to Modern Town
Starting in the 16th century, the area of Ariany was owned by the Cotoner family. They were important landowners. The town center you see today grew up around a large house. This house belonged to the Auberg family. It was called S'Auberg i El Camí de Sa Marquesa.
Important Buildings Today
Ariany has some important historical buildings. One is the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de Atocha. This church was built way back in 1570. Another significant building is Ca ses Monges. This is a convent where Franciscan nuns live.
