Ariel Atias (Hebrew: אריאל אטיאס) was born on November 13, 1970. He is an Israeli politician. He served as a member of the Knesset, which is like Israel's parliament.
Atias was part of the Shas political party. He also held important jobs as a government minister. He was the Minister of Housing and Construction. He also managed a kosher food organization called Badatz Beit Yosef. In 2014, he decided to leave politics.

Political Career
Atias was first elected to the Knesset in 2006. He ran with the Shas party. In May 2006, he became the Minister of Communications. This job involves overseeing things like phones and internet.
He was re-elected to the Knesset in 2009. After that, he was appointed Minister of Housing and Construction. This role involves planning and building homes and cities.
Atias was elected again in 2013. However, his party, Shas, was not part of the new government. This meant he lost his job as a minister. In June 2014, he resigned from the Knesset. He wanted to take a break from politics. Yoav Ben-Tzur took his place in the Knesset.
Minister of Communications
As the Minister of Communications, Atias made big changes. He worked on a cellular reform in Israel. This reform helped make phone and internet costs much lower. Israel's connectivity fees became some of the lowest among developed countries.
He also created a "number portability" reform. This means people could keep their phone number when switching companies. This encouraged phone companies to compete more. Another idea he had was to open the market for Mobile virtual network operators. These are phone companies that use other companies' networks.
