About the Ariporo River

The Ariporo River is one of many rivers that crisscross the diverse landscapes of Colombia. Rivers like the Ariporo are vital for the environment and for people. They provide water for plants and animals, and sometimes for farming or transportation.

Where is the Ariporo River?

The Ariporo River flows through parts of Colombia. It is located in the eastern plains, an area known as the Llanos. This region is famous for its wide-open grasslands and rich wildlife.

What is a River Basin?

When we say the Ariporo River is part of the Orinoco River basin, it means that all the rain and smaller streams in a certain area drain into the Ariporo, and then the Ariporo's water joins the Orinoco River. A river basin is like a giant funnel. All the water that falls within that funnel eventually flows into one main river. The Orinoco River basin is one of the largest in South America.
