Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Arlington is a small, unincorporated community located in Montgomery County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or a town. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.

A Look Back: Arlington's History

Arlington was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1838. It was created along the historic National Road, which was one of the first major highways built in the United States. This road helped connect different parts of the country and allowed people to travel and trade more easily.

Over the years, this community was known by a few different names. It was sometimes called Corwin, South Arlington, and even Vorhees.

Arlington also had a post office at various times.

  • A post office named Corwin opened in 1849 but closed a few years later in 1856.
  • It reopened in 1858 with the name South Arlington.
  • In 1881, the name of the post office changed again to Vorhees.
  • Finally, the post office in Arlington was closed for good in 1901.

Today, Arlington remains a quiet community in Montgomery County.
