From Museum to Workshop

The Armory began in 1947. It was first the education part of the Pasadena Art Museum. This means it was where people went to learn about art at the museum. In 1974, the Pasadena Art Museum closed. It later became the Norton Simon Museum. After the museum closed, the art education program kept going. It was then called the Pasadena Art Workshops.

Becoming the Armory Center

The Pasadena Art Workshops continued to teach art. They worked with another art space called the Baxter Art Gallery. In 1989, these two groups joined together. That's when they officially became the Armory Center for the Arts. Since then, it has been a key place for art in Pasadena.
