Sir Arnold Savage (died 1375) was an important English knight from the 1300s. He was known for his work in government and military roles. Sir Arnold held many key positions during his life. He helped manage soldiers, served in important government meetings, and even became a mayor in France. He also played a part in peace talks between countries.

Life of Sir Arnold Savage

Sir Arnold Savage was the son of Roger Savage and Clarice de la Warre. He was born into the Savage family, who were well-known in England.

Early Career and Military Roles

Sir Arnold began his career serving in France in 1345. A year later, in 1346, he became a commissioner of array in Kent. This meant he was in charge of organizing soldiers in that area.

In 1350, he was appointed as a lieutenant to the Seneschal of Gascony. A seneschal was a high-ranking official, like a governor. So, Sir Arnold helped govern Gascony, a region in France that was then under English control.

Government and Peace Efforts

Sir Arnold also took part in the English government. He attended a meeting of parliament in January 1352. Parliament is where laws are made and important decisions are discussed.

On April 13, 1355, he was named Warden of the Coasts of Kent. This role meant he was responsible for protecting the coastline of Kent from attacks.

From 1359 to 1363, Sir Arnold served as the Mayor of Bordeaux. Bordeaux was a very important city in France at the time. As mayor, he was the chief official, overseeing the city's affairs.

He also used his skills to help make peace. He was involved in talks with Pedro of Castile in 1352. Later, in 1371 and 1373, he helped negotiate peace agreements with France. Sir Arnold Savage passed away in 1375. His son, also named Arnold, continued the family's legacy.
