Sir Arnold Savage (born September 8, 1358 – died 1410) was an important English leader from Bobbing, Kent. He served as the Speaker of the House of Commons twice. Arnold Savage was born in Bobbing, Kent. He was part of the well-known Savage family. His father, also named Sir Arnold Savage, passed away in 1374.
Public Service and Roles
Sir Arnold Savage had many important jobs during his life.
- In 1381, he helped deal with the Peasants' Revolt. This was a big uprising by common people in England.
- He was chosen as the Sheriff of Kent in 1382 and again in 1386. A sheriff was like a top law enforcement officer in a county.
- In 1385, he was made a Knight.
- He was elected as a knight of the shire (which means he was a Member of Parliament, or MP) for Kent several times: in 1390, 1391, 1401, 1402, and 1404.
- He was chosen to be the Speaker of the House of Commons twice. This shows how much people trusted him to lead important discussions.
- From 1393 to 1396, he was in charge of Queenborough Castle. He also helped manage Dover Castle.
- From 1402 to 1406, he was a member of the council for King Henry IV. This meant he advised the King.
Personal Life
Sir Arnold Savage married Joan Eychingham. She was the daughter of William Eychinham.
When Sir Arnold Savage passed away in 1410, he was buried at Bobbing church. His son, also named Arnold, took over his family's position. His son also became an MP for Kent.
