Arrange facts for kids
Arrange is an important figure in a special creation story from the Aboriginal people of Australia. This story belongs to the Alyawarre people and explains how a famous place called Karlu Karlu was formed. Karlu Karlu is also known as the Devils Marbles.
What is Karlu Karlu?
Karlu Karlu is a very well-known place in the Northern Territory of Australia. It's famous for its huge, round granite boulders that seem to be balanced on top of each other. These rocks are a natural wonder and are very important to the local Aboriginal people. They are a sacred site, meaning they have deep spiritual meaning.
The Story of Arrange
In the Alyawarre creation story, Arrange is sometimes called the "devil man." He came from a place known as Ayleparrarntenhe. As Arrange traveled, he was busy making a special item called a hair belt. A hair belt is a traditional decoration worn only by initiated men in some Aboriginal cultures.
While Arrange was twisting hair into long strings for his belt, he accidentally dropped some clumps of hair onto the ground. These dropped clusters of hair magically turned into the giant boulders of Karlu Karlu that we see today!
Later, when Arrange returned to the area, he spat on the ground. This act created even more of the large, round granite boulders, especially those found in the middle part of Karlu Karlu. This myth helps the Alyawarre people understand the landscape around them and connects them to their ancestral lands.
