Arrington High was born in 1910. His mother was African American, and his father was Euro-American. He started his own newspaper, the Eagle Eye, in Jackson, Mississippi.

High wrote and printed the Eagle Eye right from his home on Maple Street in Jackson. Copies of the newspaper cost ten cents. You could buy them directly from High or from the Farish Street Newsstand.

Fighting for Equality

Arrington High was known for speaking out strongly for social equality and civil rights. He believed everyone should be treated fairly. The front page of his Eagle Eye newspaper proudly declared, "America's greatest newspaper, bombarding segregation and discrimination." This meant it was fighting against unfair separation and unequal treatment.

Challenges and Moving On

High faced many challenges because of his work. He was fined for publishing articles that criticized school segregation. Segregation was a system that unfairly separated people based on their race, especially in schools.

He was also watched by the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission. This group kept an eye on people who supported civil rights. High was even arrested for selling his newspaper without a special permit.

After publishing more criticism of segregation, he faced serious difficulties. He was held against his will in Whitfield. However, he bravely found a way to escape and continued his work from Chicago. He kept publishing his newspaper from his new home.

Later Years

Arrington High continued his publishing work for many years. He passed away in 1988 while living with his daughter in Chicago. His work helped bring attention to the fight for civil rights.
