A Look at Their History
The way the Aube department is organized has changed a few times over the years.
How Aube Was First Set Up
- 1790: The Aube department was first created. At that time, it was divided into six smaller areas called districts. These districts were Nogent-sur-Seine, Arcis-sur-Aube, Bar-sur-Aube, Bar-sur-Seine, Ervy, and Troyes. The main city for the whole department was, and still is, Troyes.
Changes Over Time
- 1800: The system changed from districts to arrondissements. Five arrondissements were created: Arcis-sur-Aube, Bar-sur-Aube, Bar-sur-Seine, Nogent-sur-Seine, and Troyes.
- 1926: Two of these arrondissements, Arcis-sur-Aube and Bar-sur-Seine, were removed. This left the three arrondissements we see today.
