History

When the Aube department was created in 1800, the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine was part of that original department.

Geography

The arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine is in the northwest of the Aube department. It is bordered to the north by the Marne department, to the east by the Troyes arrondissement, to the south by the Yonne department and to the west by the Seine-et-Marne department.

The arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine has an area of 1,277.0 km2 (493.1 sq mi). It is the second arrondissement in population, with 55,009 inhabitants.
