His Family Background
Arthur was the second son of John Cole, 1st Baron Mountflorence (1709–1767). His family lived at a place called Florencecourt in County Fermanagh. His mother was Elizabeth Montgomery. Arthur's older brother was William Cole, 1st Earl of Enniskillen.
His Marriage and Children
In 1780, Arthur married Letitia Hamilton. She was the daughter of Claud Hamilton, who was also a Member of Parliament in Ireland. When Arthur married Letitia, he added her family name, Hamilton, to his own. This is why he became "Cole-Hamilton."
Arthur and Letitia had four children:
- Claud William Cole-Hamilton (1781–1822): He became the High Sheriff of Tyrone in 1811.

Arthur Cole-Hamilton's family continued to be involved in public life. Through his son Claud, he was an ancestor to several notable people. These include Richard Cole-Hamilton, who was a clergyman. Another descendant was John Cole-Hamilton, an officer in the RAF. More recently, Alex Cole-Hamilton became a politician.
