What Does the House Look Like?
The Arthur M. Parker House is a two-and-a-half-story building. The first floor is made of brick. The upper parts have stucco and wood beams, which is called "half-timbering." This design gives the house a look from the Middle Ages. It has different-sized sections that make it unique. The house is known for its "neo-medieval" style. This means it uses ideas from medieval architecture but in a newer way.
A Look Back: History of the House
The Arthur M. Parker House was built in 1901. It was designed for a man named Arthur M. Parker. He was the secretary-treasurer of a company called the Detroit Boiler Company. The house was created by a Detroit architecture firm named Malcomson & Higginbotham.
Over the years, the house has had different uses. By the 1980s, the Detroit School Board was using the building. Later, in the 2000s, it became the main office for the Southeast Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
