History of Arvest Ballpark
Why a New Ballpark Was Needed
Before Arvest Ballpark, there was a team called the Wichita Wranglers. They played in a different stadium that was getting old. Not many people came to their games. Because of this, the team's owner wanted to move them to a new city.
Springdale, Arkansas, wanted to bring a professional baseball team to their town. The city leaders knew they needed a great new stadium. This would make the team happy and attract more fans.
Building the Stadium
The people of Springdale had a special vote on July 11, 2006. They voted to use a small sales tax to pay for building the new ballpark. The idea passed, but it was a very close vote!
Construction on the ballpark started on February 27, 2007. A company called Crossland Construction built it. The stadium was finished in April 2008, ready for baseball season.
On September 10, 2007, a bank called Arvest Bank made a deal. They paid to have the stadium named after them. So, on October 5, 2007, it officially became Arvest Ballpark.
First Game at Arvest Ballpark
The very first game at Arvest Ballpark was on April 10, 2008. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals played against the San Antonio Missions. The stadium was completely full, with 7,820 fans cheering! Even though the Naturals lost that first game 7-1, it was an exciting day for Springdale.
