Building the Ballpark
Springdale's Mayor Jerre M. Van Hoose and Perry Webb, who led the Chamber of Commerce, wanted to bring professional minor league baseball to the area. They knew they needed a great stadium. On July 11, 2006, local voters said "yes" to a plan. They agreed to continue a small sales tax to help pay for the new ballpark.
Construction Begins
Work on the ballpark started on February 27, 2007. A company called Crossland Construction built the stadium. They finished the project in April 2008.
Naming the Stadium
On September 10, 2007, a deal was made with Arvest Bank. This bank is from nearby Bentonville. Because of this deal, the stadium was officially named Arvest Ballpark. The name was announced on October 5, 2007.
First Game Played
The very first baseball game at Arvest Ballpark was on April 10, 2008. It was opening day for the 2008 season. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals played against the San Antonio Missions. The stadium was completely full with 7,820 fans! Even though the Naturals lost 7-1, it was an exciting day for the new ballpark.
