Arwind Anaya Santos (born June 10, 1981) is a famous Filipino professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Arwind is known for his amazing skills as a power forward and small forward.

Arwind Santos' Early Basketball Journey
Arwind Santos was born in Angeles City, Philippines. He started playing basketball in high school at Lubao Institute. His hard work on the court quickly made him well-known.
High School Basketball Success
While in high school, Arwind helped his team win the West Central Zone Championship. In 2000, his talent was noticed during local games. He then joined the RQP Team, a local basketball club in Lubao. This team helped him get a spot on the FEU Tamaraws men's basketball team for college.
College Basketball Highlights
Arwind joined the UAAP in 2002 with the FEU Tamaraws. He immediately made an impact, winning the Rookie of the Year award.
- Winning Championships
In 2003, he led the Tamaraws to their first UAAP championship in six years. They beat the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the finals. Arwind was named the Finals MVP for his great performance. He was also recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year.
The next year, in 2004, Arwind won the UAAP Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. His team, the Tamaraws, won the championship again. In his final year, 2005, he led the team to another title, completing a "three-peat" (three championships in a row). He won both the Season MVP and Finals MVP awards that year.
Arwind Santos is one of only two players in the FEU Tamaraws to have his jersey number (No. 19) retired. This is a huge honor!
Philippine Basketball League (PBL) Career
In 2003, Arwind started playing in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) for Viva Mineral Water. He helped his team reach the finals.
- PBL Championships
In 2004, he led Viva to their first PBL championship, winning the Unity Cup. Arwind was named the PBL MVP for that tournament. In 2006, he won another PBL title with Magnolia Ice Cream, showing his ability to lead teams to victory.
Arwind Santos' Professional Career
Arwind Santos became a professional basketball player in 2006. He was picked second overall in the 2006 PBA draft by the Air21 Express. He chose to wear number 29.
Playing for Air21 Express
During his time with Air21, Arwind quickly became one of the top rookies. He showed great scoring ability and was a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year award. He was also named to the All-Rookie Team.
Years with San Miguel Beermen
In 2009, Arwind joined the San Miguel Beermen, one of the most successful teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). This was a big move for his career.
- Becoming a Champion
In 2011, Arwind was named the Best Player of the Conference in the PBA Governors' Cup. He then led his team to win the championship, even though they were not expected to win against a very strong opponent. He was named the Finals MVP for his amazing performance.
In the 2012–13 PBA season, Arwind won his first-ever PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. He also continued to be recognized for his strong defense, making the Mythical First Team and All-Defensive Team for many years.
- More Championships and Awards
Arwind helped the San Miguel Beermen win many more championships, including the Philippine Cup in the 2014–15 PBA season. He won another Finals MVP award for his consistent play. He was a key part of the team's success, winning multiple championships and earning many individual awards like Best Player of the Conference and All-Star Game MVP.
Moving to NorthPort Batang Pier
In 2021, after 12 successful years with the San Miguel Beermen, Arwind was traded to NorthPort Batang Pier. He continued to show his skills, even becoming the oldest player to win the Defensive Player of the Year award for the third time in his career. In 2022, he reached a huge milestone, joining the PBA's 10,000 Point Club, meaning he scored over 10,000 points in his career.
Joining Pampanga Giant Lanterns
In 2023, Arwind Santos joined the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). He helped the team win the 2023 MPBL finals, adding another championship to his impressive list of achievements. This was his tenth professional league championship!

Arwind Santos' National Team Career
Arwind Santos has also played for the Philippine National Team several times.
Representing the Philippines
In 2006, he played for the national team under coach Chot Reyes in the 28th Jones Cup. In 2009, he was part of the Powerade Team Pilipinas that competed in the 2009 FIBA Asia Championship.
In 2010, Arwind was considered to join Smart Gilas, the national basketball team, to make it even stronger. He even played in an exhibition game against NBA legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Arwind Santos' Personal Life
Arwind Santos is known for his fun personality. He once appeared on the variety show Eat Bulaga! in a segment called Bawal Judgmental!. He was the first player to perfectly complete the game and win a large cash prize.
