Ashby Columbus Dunbar (born October 15, 1879 – died May 5, 1925) was a talented baseball player. He was an Outfielder in the Negro leagues for many years. This was before the first official Negro National League was formed. Dunbar played for several different teams during his career. He spent the most time playing for the Brooklyn Royal Giants.

Ashby Dunbar: A Baseball Journey
Ashby Dunbar played baseball during a time when African American players were not allowed in Major League Baseball. Because of this, they created their own professional teams and leagues, known as the Negro Leagues. Dunbar was an important player in these leagues.
Early Career and Key Teams
Ashby Dunbar started his professional baseball career around 1908. He played for the Philadelphia Giants and the Brooklyn Royal Giants. He spent several seasons with the Brooklyn Royal Giants, which became one of his main teams. He also played for a team called Club Fe during this time.
Moving Around the Leagues
After his time with the Brooklyn Royal Giants, Dunbar played for many different teams. In 1912, he joined the New York Lincoln Giants. He then played for the Paterson Smart Set and the Schenectady Mohawk Giants.
In 1914 and 1915, Dunbar played for the Louisville White Sox. He also had a short time with the Chicago Black Sox.
Winter Ball and Later Years
During the winter season of 1915-1916, Ashby Dunbar played for the Royal Poinciana Hotel team. This team was connected to the Indianapolis ABCs. He then played a regular summer season with the Indianapolis ABCs in 1916.
Later in 1916, Dunbar moved back to the East Coast. He played for the New York Lincoln Stars. His last known games were for the Pennsylvania Red Caps of New York between 1917 and 1920. Ashby Dunbar passed away in 1925.
