Asherville's Story
How Asherville Started
The first people to settle in Asherville arrived in 1866. They built their homes near a stream called Asher Creek. This stream gave the community its name. By 1910, Asherville had grown to about 125 people.
Asherville was also home to the oldest post office in Mitchell County. It opened in 1869. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1980.
