Ashika David's Medical Journey
Ashika David was encouraged to become a doctor. She became one of the first female doctors. First, she studied English at the University of Michigan. Then, in 1883, she went to the University of Cambridge to study medicine.
After becoming a surgeon, David went back to India. She quickly became well-known in the New Delhi area. Ashika David was famous for helping people who were treated unfairly. She started the first "public service campaign" by giving out helpful papers at her clinics.
David worked with both British people and Indian nationalists. Together, they built many clinics all over India. These clinics helped people who needed care and support. Many of her clinics are still open today, even after India became independent. However, when Pakistan became a separate country, some clinics lost their money.
