Assembly of Ronda facts for kids
The Assembly of Ronda (Spanish: Asamblea de Ronda) was a special meeting held in Ronda, Province of Málaga, in January 1918. It brought together people who believed Andalusia should have more control over its own region. These people were called "Andalusian nationalists." This gathering was the first to officially choose the symbols of Andalusia. These symbols are now the flag and emblem of the autonomous community of Andalusia. Blas Infante, an important leader, called them "the insignia of Andalusia."

What Was the Assembly of Ronda?
The Assembly of Ronda was organized by groups called the Centros Andaluces. These groups worked to promote Andalusian culture and rights. At the meeting, they decided to use a plan from 1883 called the Constitution of Antequera. This old plan was like a "Magna Carta" for Andalusia. It outlined how Andalusia could govern itself. The assembly wanted to make this plan a reality. They continued the work of the Andalusianist movement from the late 1800s.
Why Was This Meeting Important?
A key step before the Assembly of Ronda was the creation of the first Centro Andaluz in Seville in 1916. Blas Infante led this group. They also started a magazine called Andalucía.
At the Assembly of Ronda, people talked about many issues. They discussed "centralism," which meant too much power was held by the central government. They also talked about "caciquismo," where powerful local bosses controlled things unfairly. Hunger and the price of bread were also big concerns.
The assembly even sent a message to the League of Nations. This was an international group formed to promote peace. In their message, they described Andalusia as a "country" (país) and a "nationality" (nacionalidad). This showed they saw Andalusia as a distinct land with its own people and identity.
What Happened Next?
The ideas and work from the Assembly of Ronda were continued later. Another important meeting, the Assembly of Córdoba (1919), followed in 1919.
