The Association Aéronautique et Astronautique de France (3AF) is France's national group for everything about planes and space. It is located in Paris, the capital city of France.

What is 3AF?

The 3AF is a special association that brings together people who are interested in the world of flying and space. This includes professionals and anyone who loves learning about planes, rockets, and space travel.

What 3AF Does

The main goal of 3AF is to connect people who work in or are passionate about the aerospace field. They share ideas and help advance scientific and technical knowledge about planes and space. Most members are technicians, engineers, and researchers who design, build, and study aerospace technology.

How 3AF Started

The 3AF was created in 1971. It was formed by combining two older groups:

  • The French Association of Aeronautical and Space Engineers and Technicians (AFITAE), which started in 1945.
  • The French Astronautical Society (SFA), which began in 1955.

Working with Other Groups

3AF works with many important partners in the aerospace industry. These include big companies like Alcatel Space, EADS, and Arianespace.

3AF is also a founding member of a larger group called the Confederation of European Aerospace Societies (CEAS). This group includes similar associations from other European countries, such as:

  • Germany's Deutsche Gesellschaft für Luft - und Raumfahrt Lilienthal - Oberth eV (DGLR)
  • Britain's Royal Aeronautical Society (RAES)
  • The Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDA)
