Association for Women Geoscientists facts for kids
The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) is a group that helps women and girls who are interested in geoscience. Geoscience is the study of Earth, like rocks, oceans, and volcanoes. AWG helps its members grow in their careers. It also encourages girls to learn about Earth science. Anyone who supports these goals can join. Members include scientists, students, and people from different jobs like in companies, government, and universities.
History of the AWG
The AWG started in San Francisco in 1977. Its main goal was to encourage women to work in geoscience. At that time, not many women were in these jobs. Today, the AWG still has the same goal. More women are now studying and working in geoscience. The AWG has almost 1200 members, including students and scientists. It has local groups in many cities and members all over the world.
