Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland facts for kids
The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) was an important group for police leaders in Scotland. It brought together top police officers like Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables, and Assistant Chief Constables. Even some senior police staff and superintendents were involved.
ACPOS was like the professional voice for these leaders. It helped guide and develop policing across Scotland. On April 1, 2013, ACPOS joined with all eight Scottish regional police forces and the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency to form Police Scotland. After this, ACPOS stopped operating.
ACPOS started as a group for staff. But in 2006, it became a private company. In 2009, it gained charitable status, meaning it worked for public benefit. ACPOS grew to be a key group that helped plan and manage all parts of policing in Scotland. It shared ideas on police changes, published important policies, and worked with the government to improve services for communities in Scotland.
