The Scottish Police Services Authority (SPSA) was an important group in Scotland. It helped all the different police forces across the country. The SPSA was part of the Scottish Government.
This group started on April 1, 2007. It was created after a new law was passed in 2006. The SPSA took over several key services for the police. These included the Scottish Police College, which trains police officers. It also managed the Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency. This agency worked to stop serious crime.
The SPSA also looked after the Scottish Criminal Records Office. This office kept important records about crimes. Another big job was the Scottish Police Information Strategy. This helped police forces share information. The SPSA also managed important police services. These included forensics, which uses science to solve crimes. It also handled IT, which is all about computers and technology.
What Happened to the SPSA?
On April 1, 2013, the way policing worked in Scotland changed. All eight local police forces joined together. The Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency also joined. The Scottish Police Services Authority (SPSA) became part of this new system too.
All these groups were replaced by a single new police force. This new force is called Police Scotland. A new group called the Scottish Police Authority now oversees Police Scotland.
