Asta Nørregaard (born August 13, 1853 – died March 23, 1933) was a talented Norwegian painter. She is especially famous for her beautiful portraits of people.

A Life in Art: Asta Nørregaard
Asta Nørregaard was born in a city called Christiania, which is now known as Oslo, Norway. She was the daughter of Hans Peter Nørregaard and Elise Jacobine Hesselberg. Sadly, Asta and her older sister became orphans when they were young. Neither sister ever married.
Asta started her art journey at the Knud Bergslien painting school. She studied there alongside another famous artist, Harriet Backer. Later, from 1875 to 1878, she learned from Eilif Peterssen in Munich. In 1879, Asta continued her studies in Paris, a major art city.
Asta Nørregaard held many art shows where people could see her work. She had solo exhibitions at Blomqvist Kunsthandel in 1893, 1903, 1913, and 1925. She also showed her paintings at bigger group exhibitions. These included the Salon de Paris in 1881 and 1882. Her art was also displayed at world exhibitions in Antwerp in 1885 and Paris in 1889.
In 1920, Asta Nørregaard received a special honor. She was given the King's Medal of Merit in gold. This award recognized her important contributions to art. Today, you can see her paintings in several museums in Oslo. These include the Munch Museum, Oslo City Museum, University of Oslo, and the National Gallery. Her work was also part of a special art show in 2018 called Women in Paris 1850-1900.
