The University of Oslo (which is Universitetet i Oslo in Norwegian) is the oldest and largest university in Norway. It is located in Oslo, the capital city of Norway.
This university started in 1811. It was first called The Royal Frederick University. It was named after King Frederick of Denmark and Norway. The university changed to its current name in 1939.

What Can You Study at the University of Oslo?
The University of Oslo offers many different subjects to study. These subjects are grouped into different departments called faculties.

Where Are the Campuses Located?
The Faculty of Law is still in the old university buildings. These buildings are on Karl Johans gate in central Oslo. They are close to important places like the National Theatre, the Royal Palace, and the Parliament building.
Most other faculties are at a newer campus area. This area is called Blindern. The Faculty of Medicine is spread out. Its parts are in different university hospitals around Oslo.
How Many Students and Staff Are There?
In 2019, the University of Oslo had many people involved. There were 30,505 students studying there. The university also had 6,595 people working for it. This includes professors, researchers, and other staff members.
