Astro Nusantara was a special television service in Indonesia. It brought TV channels right to homes using satellites orbiting Earth!
This service was run by a company called PT Direct Vision. This company started on February 28, 2006. PT Direct Vision was a "joint venture" company. This means it was created by two different companies working together. These companies were Astro All Asia Networks plc from Malaysia and PT First Media Tbk. from Indonesia.
Astro Nusantara offered many different TV channels. At one point, it had 48 channels! Five of these channels were made especially for Indonesian viewers. They were launched under the Astro brand.
What is Satellite TV?
Satellite television is a cool way to get TV signals. Instead of using antennas on your roof, signals are sent from a big dish on Earth up to a satellite in space. This satellite then sends the signals back down to a smaller dish at your home.
How Does Satellite TV Work?
- A TV company sends its shows to a large antenna on the ground.
- This antenna beams the signals up to a satellite orbiting Earth.
- The satellite catches these signals and sends them back down.
- Your home has a small satellite dish, usually on the roof. This dish catches the signals from space.
- A special box connected to your TV then decodes these signals. This lets you watch all the channels!
