Asunción Mita (pronounced asun-SYOM MEE-tah) is a town and a municipality in the Jutiapa department of Guatemala. A municipality is like a local government area, and a department is similar to a state or province. In 2018, the town had a population of 20,936 people.

People Living in Asunción Mita
In the year 1850, about 3,300 people lived in Asunción Mita. The population has grown a lot since then! The latest count in 2018 showed that 48,297 people live in the whole municipality.
Fun Festivals and Celebrations
Asunción Mita is a place that loves to celebrate! They have two main festivals each year.
- The first festival happens from August 12th to 15th. It honors the Virgin of Asunción.
- The second festival takes place from December 6th to 12th. This one honors the Virgin of Concepción.
They also celebrate the "Flower War" on August 7th. These festivals are a great way for the community to come together.
Sports and Football
If you love football (which is called soccer in some places!), you might know about the team from Asunción Mita. The local football club is called Deportivo Mictlán. In the 2010/2011 season, they played in Guatemala's top football league, the Liga Mayor. They play their home games at the Estadio La Asunción, which is their local stadium.
Weather and Climate
Asunción Mita has a tropical savanna climate. This means it's usually hot all year round. The weather also has two main seasons:
- The wet season is from May to October. During these months, it rains a lot.
- The dry season is for the rest of the year. From November to April, there is much less rain.
